Removing and Cleaning a Single Screw Barrel
01 What is the procedure for removing a single screw barrel from an extruder?
You can remove a single screw extruder screw by following these steps:
- 1. Heating the Barrel: First, heat the barrel to the forming temperature required for the residual material in the barrel.
- 2. Remove the Head: After heating up to the forming temperature, remove the head while it is still hot.
- 3. Drain Residual Material: Open the machine and drain the barrel of the residual material as far as possible.
- 4. Stop the Machine: After draining the material in the barrel, stop the machine and switch off the power.
- 5. Loosen the Cooling Device: Loosen the screw cooling device and remove the cooling water pipe.
- 6. Disconnect the Screw: The screw is connected to the gearbox at the connection with the drive shaft. Loosen the connection between the screw and the drive shaft and remove the screw with a special device.
- 7. Extract the Screw: Once the screw has been extended out of the barrel, use asbestos cloth and other shims to pad it. Then, use steel wire flies to set on the screw shims and yank the screw out. It is best to pull the screw out while it is still hot. Pull the hot screw out from the front and top it from the back. Using the steel ring on the other end, sleeve the screw and pull it all out.
02 What is the best way to clean and protect removed screws?
The screw should be removed from the extruder and placed flat on a board. It should then be cleaned immediately while it is still hot. Use a copper wire brush to remove any adhering debris. If any oil stains appear on the screw after it has cooled, wipe them off with a solvent. Use a fine emery cloth or oil stone to polish small scars on the surface of the screw. For severe wear, use overlay welding or other methods. Clean the screw with anti-rust oil. If the screw is not used for a long time, wrap it in a soft cloth and vertically lift it to avoid deformation.
