The main component of nylon 6 is caprolactam, which contains six carbon atoms. Because nylon 6 is made up of parallel chains with hydrogen bonds between them, it’s less closed and has fewer hydrogen bonds inside.

Before processing, dry the product at temperatures ranging from 80 to 110 °C until the moisture level is less than 0.2 %. When PA6 decomposes, it mostly makes carbon monoxide, ammonia, and caprolactam.
Injection Moulding: It is recommended that the screw L/D ratio be 18 to 22. PA6 melt temperature: 240 to 270 °C. Mould temperature: 55 to 80 °C
Extrusion: Extrusion can only treat very viscous grades. It is advisable to use a three-section screw with an L/D ratio of 20 to 30. The processing temperature is 240 to 270 °C.
The nylon 6 material is tough and abrasion-resistant. In comparison to PA66, PA6 has better processability, stronger hydrolytic stability, better surface appearance, creep resistance, a lower HDT, and similar stiffness below 180°C. It’s also less crystalline, so it shrinks less when moulded.
Compared to nylon 66, nylon 6 has a lower modulus and absorbs moisture faster. A liquid-filled material also increases elongation and toughness, as well as reducing strength and stiffness. Liquid, however, can mess with tolerances.
It’s self-lubricating, strong at high temperatures, impact-resistant even at low temperatures, has good flow so it’s easy to process, is wear and abrasion-resistant, has excellent fuel and oil resistance, and is electrically insulating.
This results in UV stabilisation being necessary, as well as high shrinkage of the mold, and low dimensional stability as a result of high water absorption. Furthermore, mold is affected by acids, bases, and oxidizing agents. It’s best to pre-dry the material. Extremely sensitive to notch
